Why are you the best candidate for this position

I am an undergraduate student at Institute of Technology Bandung focusing on Electrical Power Engineering. I am writing to apply for the Application and Development for Smartphone and PCs position at ageet Corporation posted in AIESEC Virtual Professional Program 2021. I’m very excited about the field of information technology (IT), and would welcome the opportunity to bring my strong communication skills, technical writing, and coding experience to the company.

The development of technology is a particular interest to me because of my passion for digitalizations. Last February, I and my team (group of 5 students) were honored to be selected as runner-up in one of the most prestigious IT competitions in Indonesia with the predicate of "The Most Cutting Edge Technology." We proposed a solution to improve Indonesia’s traffic user safety by providing alternative safety routes integrated with traffic accident data and COVID19 Red-zone using android application. During the working stage, I was trusted as the co-leader who was responsible for conceptualizing ideas, organizing and executing 4-months-plan using waterfall methodology, and ensuring that all functions and features in the prototype were working properly. Even though we only had very limited time and resources due to the COVID19 pandemic, we were able to survive and complete the project very well. Moreover, I also have awarded as the 1st winner of National Research Paper Competition in 2019 and 3rd runner-up of National Research Paper Competition in 2020. During the competition, I was able to write technical reports in a neat and structured form, and to carry out in-depth analysis based on international researches and literatures.

During my first year of college, I was equipped with computational thinking skills so that I was able to create program’s source code both in procedural and functional forms. The programming languages I am good at most are Python for data analysis and visualization, and MATLAB for mathematical computing, signal processing, and electrical circuit simulation. In addition, I also often use the Arduino IDE to work on personal or campus projects regarding embedded systems using Arduino and NodeMCU. In the coding process, I prefer to read the official documentation rather than other references in order to gain fundamental understanding. Then in the debugging process, I usually create a table consists of various test-cases so that it is easier for me to find errors and resolving the development issues.

Currently, I’m humbled to be selected as Director of External Communication Department in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) ITB Student Branch. Throughout one and a half year in IEEE ITB SB, I have gained a lot of public communication experience and international exposure. I’ve organized and conducted National Student Branch Visit Program (virtually) with IEEE Udayana University Student Branch (Bali, Indonesia). I’ve also organized and conducted International Student Branch Visit Program (virtually) with IEEE Universidad Católica de Santa María Student Branch (Peru, South America).

I’m very excited at the prospect of bringing the skill I developed through my previous experiences to the Application and Development for Smartphone and PCs role at ageet Corporation. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Fedrico Simorangkir
