Why are you the best candidate for this position

By being the Project Lead for Compass'20, it was my responsibility to deliver a speech both at the opening and closing ceremonies. I had never before spoke to an audience from a stage. Although my speech was not fluid and smooth, I managed to face my fears and deliver what I wanted to say. A huge part of the credit goes to my team members who encouraged me all the way. This is why I was much more confident and comfortable in the speaking at the closing ceremony than at the opening.

Moreover, I also had the responsibility of keeping coordination between different teams in the event. For example, on the campsite, I had to make sure that the Training and Development Research team (who planned the event) was on board with the Operations team (who executed the plan). So, I had to take regular updates from both team leaders and sometime even pass on messages from one the the other. This greatly improved my ability to listen carefully and talk precisely.

In short, being the Project Lead forced me out of my comfort zone to confront and interact with people (which I usually dont do). Through this, I am much more composed than before in speaking both publicly and individually.

Being in a leading position for 2 years in LUMS Religious Society (LRS) has also gradually built in me good interpersonal skills. LRS is divided into departments like marketing, logistics, design, media, publications etc. Being part of the Executive Council, I had ensure smooth communication between the departments and also of the departments with the EC. Because we organized events once or twice in 2 weeks, we had to be in touch with each other nearly every day. the main source of communication was WhatsApp but we had meetings on-campus to plan future events. In 2020, this shifted to Zoom meetings nearly every week and led by me. I developed the skill to convey messages shortly and keep meeting short and productive. One way i used to do this was share the agenda of a meeting to be held with the members so everyone knew what was going to be discussed. This saved much time and effort for me in the past one and a half year.

Therefore, I think I am the best candidate for the position.
